Terrazzo surfaces with their wide range and wealth of colours, provided by the natural marble aggregate, make possible the design of highly finished areas affording dignity and beauty yet capable of withstanding heavy traffic with the minimum of maintenance. The products of the industry cover a wide range from basic utilitarian pre-cast products to complicated forms bordering on artwork.

Terrazzo possesses a smooth, hard, non-dusting surface permanently attractive, in non-fading colours. It is the Architects choice of material for floors in hospitals, schools, public buildings, offices, supermarkets, stores and restaurants.

There is no finer material for areas requiring the most hygienic conditions and for high class floors, walls and staircases when appearance and wear are of paramount importance. The initial cost is no more than other less effective materials and its durability and ease of maintenance make terrazzo the most economic floor finish available.

Terrazzo is available as a pre-cast tile or pre-cast unit as well as an in-situ form. The tiles are made in various sizes and are vibrated, hydraulically pressed and machined automatically to a fine grit finish. The tiles are then laid on site in a sand/cement screed and finally polished in-situ. All other pre-cast units are factory finished ready for immediate site installation, while the full in-situ finish would be used for complicated shapes and surfaces.

The normal grade of marble aggregate vary from 3mm to 9mm, but basic sizes up to 20mm are obtainable. The colour range is achieved by mixing and varying the aggregate and coloured cement in infinitely variable mixtures to provide the required result.

Our casting facility, Kengate Terrazzo, located at Shepperton can produce samples of each product as well as recreating existing finishes where a match is required on request via our office. Below can be seen some of the previous samples that have been sent to site, these pictures help to illustrate the range and variety of colours aggregate content and tone that Kengate Terrazzo are able manufacture their terrazzo products in.

Below is a range of terrazzo sample. The ‘KS’ numbers refer to ‘Kengate Sample’. This specific number allows Kengate Terrazzo to record, store and trace all samples that they send out to potential clients. When approved and an order placed, the tiles are then given a new ‘KT’ number. This number refers to ‘Kengate Tile’ and every tile produced for that specific contract is engraved with the new KT number. This enables Kengate Terrazzo to differentiate between tiles that they are producing for the different contracts at any time.
